Senior Moving and Downsizing
Few moves sit as heavy on a family as emptying the house where parents spent forty years and brought everyone up, and very little of that weight is about the boxes at all. The way we meet it is by slowing down. Whether it’s the sorting, the packing, the donation runs, or the move itself, the crew takes each piece at a pace that rushes no one, handling everything inside that Beverly or Norwood Park home the way it would want its own parents’ things handled. Nobody’s racing a clock, no outside voice is calling the schedule, just a steady crew and a flat rate I’ve set down in writing.
Out of the Old House, Into the Next
The route generally leads from a long-held Chicago home to somewhere smaller, a downtown condo, a suburban senior community, an in-law setup on the Northwest Side, or a longer trip to grown kids down in Florida. Wherever the new address sits, the job stays with one crew from beginning to end, so it’s a single company and a single familiar face carrying it from the first carton through to the last.
Where We Step In
It starts with the sorting, which we take room by room and never hurry, helping work out what makes the trip, what gets given away, and what’s simply finished with. The fragile things that carry the memories, the china and the framed photographs and the keepsakes, are packed by hand and with real care. Donation pickups get lined up and anything not coming along gets hauled off. Should the new place not hold all the old one did, the surplus goes into our storage. And the new home is set up before the crew is done, beds made and rooms arranged.
Working With Family at a Distance
As often as not, the adult children are spread across other states, coordinating the whole thing by phone. Keeping each of them current on the timeline and the written number is Bridget’s job, while Yolanda runs the storage and any downtown building COI the destination calls for. Standing in the Beverly living room isn’t a requirement for knowing the move is going smoothly.
One Flat Rate, No Clock
The lot of it, the sorting help, the packing, the move, and any storage along with it, comes down to a single written number, so nothing is rushing anyone out the door. Families across Chicago have put these moves in my hands since 2008, and if any one thing carries them through, it’s patience. That’s what turns up at the threshold, right alongside the trucks and the hands to carry the day.
